Book 3 Module5 Writing “Great People and Great Inventions of Ancient China” 黑龙江省东方红林业局中学 侯春荣 一、Teaching background Teaching aims Teaching strategies step content Teaching background Analysis of the teaching material: Status and function: The topic of this module is “Great people and Great inventions of ancient China”. It introduces some famous philosophers and great inventions. Writing is the sixth period of this module following reading and listening, so it can deepen the understanding of this module. According to the New Standard Curriculum, we should enable the students to express their views on things or people. Key points: How to get the students to grasp the writing structure of contrast essays and write an essay according to the template. Difficult points: How to encourage the students to express their opinions and debate. Analysis of the students : As we know , the Senior 1 students have great interest in this topic .They have desire to express themselves. But their English level is not very high. So they may have difficulty writing contrast essays and haven’t formed certain patterns. Teaching aims Knowledge aim: 1. Enable the students to grasp the argumentation writing structure and to join sentences into a composition. 2. Enable the students to use basic sentence patterns to express their views. Such as ,in my opinion, as for me …, as far as I am concerned ,etc. Ability aim: 1. To improve the students’ writing ability especially the argumentation writing 2. To encourage the students to express their ideas and improve communicative ability. 3. To cultivate the students’ critical thinking. Emotion aim: 1. To reinforce the students’ awareness of culture and cooperation. 2. To build up the students’ self-confidence by expressing their ideas.
