However, to enable an online-assessment of the participant’s mind state both approachesneedtobeextendedtoareal-timetechnique.Bycombiningreal-timefunctionalmagneticresonanceimaging (fMRI) and online pattern classification techniques, we show that it is possible to predict human behavior during social interactionbeforetheinteractingpartnercommunicatesaspecificdecision.Averageaccuracyreachedapproximately70% whenwepredictedonlinethedecisionsofvolunteersplayingtheultimatumgame,awell-knownparadigmineconomic gametheory.Ourresultsdemonstratethesuccessfulonlineanalysisofcomplexemotionalandcognitivestatesusingreal- timefMRI,whichwillenableamajorbreakthroughforsocialfMRIbyprovidinginformationaboutmentalstatesofpartners alreadyduringthemutualinteraction.Interestingly,anadditionalwholebrainclassificationacrosssubjectsconfirmedthe onlineresults:anteriorinsula,ventralstriatum,andlateralorbitofrontalcortex,knowntoactinemotionalself-regulationand rewardprocessingforadjustmentofbehavior,appearedtobestrongdeterminantsoflaterovertbehavi
