Methods:Pre-traumapsychological,psychophysiologicalandpersonalityvariableswereprospectivelyassessedfor theirpredictiverelationshipswithpost-traumaticstresssymptoms(PTSS).Policeandfirefightertraineesweretested atthestartoftheirprofessionaltraining(i.e.,pre-trauma;n=211)andagainseveralmonthsafterexposuretoa potentiallytraumaticevent(i.e.,post-trauma,n=99).Pre-traumaassessmentsincludeddiagnosticinterviews, psychologicalandpersonalitymeasuresandtwopsychophysiologicalassessmentprocedures.The psychophysiologicalassessmentsmeasuredpsychophysiologicreactivitytoloudtonesandtheacquisitionand extinctionofaconditionedfearresponse.Post-traumaassessmentincludedameasureofpsychophysiologic reactivityduringrecollectionofthetraumaticeventusingascript-drivenimagerytask. Results:LogisticstepwiseregressionidentifiedthecombinationoflowerIQ,higherdepressionscoreandpoorer extinctionofforehead(corrugator)electromyogramresponsesaspre-traumapredictorsofhigherPTSS.The combinationoflowerIQandincreasedskinconductance(SC)reactivitytoloudtoneswereidentifiedaspre-trauma predictorsofhigherpost-traumapsychophysiologicreactivityduringrecollectionofthetraumaticevent.A univariaterelationshipwasalsoobservedbetweenpre-tr
