It is possible that vitamin D may be effective in reducing risk only of specific subtypes due to disease heterogeneity. MethodsandFindings:Incase-controlandcase-seriesanalyses,weexaminedserumconcentrationsof25-hydroxyvitamin D(25OHD) inrelation tobreast cancerprognostic characteristics, includinghistologic grade,estrogen receptor (ER), and molecularsubtypesdefinedbyER,progesteronereceptor(PR)andHER2,among579womenwithincidentbreastcancer and574controlsmatchedonageandtimeofblooddrawenrolledintheRoswellParkCancerInstitutefrom2003to2008. Wefoundthatbreastcancercaseshadsignificantlylower25OHDconcentrationsthancontrols(adjustedmean,22.8versus 26.2ng/mL,p,0.001).Amongpremenopausalwomen,25OHDconcentrationswerelowerinthosewithhigh-versuslow- gradetumors,andERnegativeversusERpositivetumors(p#0.03).Levelswerelowestamongwomenwithtriple-negative cancer (17.5ng/mL), significantly different from those with luminal A c
