Methods:Datacollectedbypreviousreportswereusedtofitanallometricmodelin ordertoestimateventricularfibrillationprobability.Patientspresentingeitherwith death,myocardialinfarctionorunstableanginawereincludedtocalculatesuch probabilityas,VFp=δ+b(ST),forthreedifferentSTdeviations.Thecoefficientsδ andbwereobtainedasthebestfittotheclinicaldataextendedoverobservational periodsof1,6,12and48monthsfromoccurrenceofthefirstreportedchestpain accompaniedbySTdeviation. Results:Byapplicationoftheaboveequationinlog-logrepresentation,thefitting procedureproducedthefollowingoverallcoefficients:Averageb=0.46,witha maximum=0.62andaminimum=0.42;Averageδ=1.28,withamaximum=1.79 andaminimum=0.92.Fora2mmST-deviation,thefullrangeofpredicted ventricularfibrillationprobabilityextendedfromabout13%at1monthupto86%at 4yearsaftertheoriginalcardiacevent. Conclusions:Theseresults,atleastpreliminarily,appearacceptableandstillcallfor fullclinicaltest.Themodelseemspromising,especiallyifotherparameterswere takenintoaccount,suchasbloodcardiacenzymeconcentrations,ischemicor infarctedepicardialareasorejectionfraction.Itisconcluded,consideringthese resultsandafewreferencesfoundintheliterature,thattheallometricmodelshows goodpredictivepracticalvaluetoaidmedicaldecisions.
