Thefavourableallelesforyieldandyieldcontributingtraitsaredistributedamongtwosubspeciesi.e.,indica andjaponicaofcultivatedrice(OryzasativaL.).Identificationofnovelfavourableallelesinindica/japonicawillpave waytomarker-assistedmobilizationoftheseallelesintoageneticbackgroundtobreakgeneticbarrierstoyield. Results:Anewplanttype(NPT)basedmappingpopulationof310recombinantinbredlines(RILs)wasusedto mapnovelgenomicregionsandQTLhotspotsinfluencingyieldandelevenyieldcomponenttraits.Weidentified majorquantitativetraitloci(QTLs)fordaysto50%flowering(R2=25%,LOD=14.3),paniclesperplant(R2 =19%, LOD=9.74),flagleaflength(R2=22%,LOD=3.05),flagleafwidth(R2=53%,LOD=46.5),spikeletsperpanicle (R2=16%,LOD=13.8),filledgrainsperpanicle(R2=22%,LOD=15.3),percentspikeletsterility(R2 =18%, LOD=14.24),thousandgrainweight(R2=25%,LOD=12.9)andspikeletsettingdensity(R2=23%,LOD=15) expressingovertwoormorelocationsbyusingcompositeintervalmapping.Thephenotypicvariation(R2 )ranged from8to53%forelevenQTLsexpressingacrossallthreelocations.19novelQTLswerecontributedbytheNPT parent,Pusa1266.15QTLhotpotsoneightchromosomeswereidentifiedforthecorrelatedtraits.SixepistaticQTLs effectingfivetraitsattwolocationswereidentified.Amarkerinterval(RM3276-RM5709)onchromosome4 harboringmajorQTLsforfourtraitswasidentified.
