Methods:Themethodsinvolvedthreedifferentplatforms:telephoneinterviews,internet-basedsurveys,and home-basedmonitoring.ThepurposesofSUPERBwere:first,tocomparedatacollectionplatformswithregardto feasibility,acceptabilityandreliability;andsecond,toprovidelongitudinalpopulation-baseddatacharacterizing seasonalandlong-termchangesinexposure-relatedbehaviorsincludingfoodconsumption,temporal-spatial activity,andhouseholdproductuse. Results:Twocohortsofhouseholdswereenrolled:families(oneparentandonechild)fromnorthernCalifornia andolderindividuals(age55+)fromcentralCalifornia.Parents(n=499)inNorthernCaliforniafamilieswereon average36yearsofage,47.1%wereLatinoornonwhite,and10.2%tookthesurveyinSpanish.Mostofthe childrenenrolled(n=566)wereunder6years(82.7%).Theolderadultsenrolled(n=156)were,onaverage, 66yearsofageand23.7%wereLatinoornonwhite,butonly2.6%completedthesurveyinSpanish. Conclusions:Wefoundthatoversamplingwassuccessfulinimprovingrecruitmentofunder-represented subgroups,suchasthosewithloweducation,therebyincreasingdiversityofourstudysample.Protocolsthat minimizeparticipanttime,e.g.,useofbarscannersandscalesratherthanquestionnairesregardinguseof householdproducts,andtheimplementationoftheseprotocolsbystaffwhobuiltrelationshipsoftrust,resultedin highretentionoveralongitudinaldatacollectionscheme.Arelativelysmallfractionofthosewhovolu
