Songetal.DiagnosticPathology2012,7:163 /content/7/1/163 CASE REPORT OpenAccess Successfultreatmentofgallbladdermixed adenoneuroendocrinecarcinomawith neo-adjuvantchemotherapy WuSong1?,WenfangChen2?,ShengZhang1,JianjunPeng1andYulongHe1* Abstract Mixedadenoneuroendocrinecarcinoma(MANEC)carcinomasrarelyoccurinthegallbladder.Herewereporteda caseofgiantgallbladderunresectablemasswithlocalliverinvasionandomentummetastasis,whichprovedtobe neuroendocrinecarcinoma(NEC)bybiopsy,receivedsuccessfulradicaloperationafterneo-adjuvantchemotherapy plussomatostatintreatment.Thepatientshowedgoodresponseastheneoplasmdiminisheddramaticallyand showedclearmarginafter6coursesoftreatment.Aradicaloperationincludingcholecystectomy,hepaticwedge resectionofthegallbladderfossasegmentandlymphnodeofgroup8aand8presectionwasperformed successfully.Postoperativehistopathologicalexaminationrevealedneuroendocrinecarcinomamixedwith adenocarcinomainthegallbladderwall.Followedupshowednoevidenceofrecurrenceafter7monthsofthe operation.Wesuggestthatneo-adjuvantchemotherapymaybebeneficialtogallbladdermixedneuroendocrine carcinomasinanadvancedstagewhichcouldalsobeadvantageoustoNECofotherorgans.
