Methods:TheitemsofthePROMISphysicalfunctionitembankweretranslatedusingrigorousforward-backward protocolsandthetranslatedversionwassubsequentlycognitivelypretestedinasampleofDutchpatientswith rheumatoidarthritis. Results:Fewissueswereencounteredintheforward-backwardtranslation.Only5ofthe124itemstobe translatedhadtoberewrittenbecauseofculturallyinappropriatecontent.Subsequentpretestingshowedthat overall,questionsoftheDutchversionwereunderstoodastheywereintended,whileonlyoneitemrequired rewriting. Conclusions:ResultssuggestthatthetranslatedversionofthePROMISphysicalfunctionitembankissemantically andconceptuallyequivalenttotheoriginal.FutureworkwillbedirectedatcreatingaDutch-Flemishfinalversion oftheitembanktobeusedinresearchwithDutchspeakingpopulations.
