The Nine Fools Once there were nine fools. They crossed a river hand by hand. After crossing the river, an old fool asked, “ Are we all here? Let me count, one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Only eight!”  “ Who is missing? One of us is surely in the river,” they cried.  They counted again and again, but there were only eight.
