On older systems Argon gas has to be used also for optic purge to provide a good transmission to avoid absorbance of UV emission lines. The Argon gas purity always should be better then 99.998% that means we allow 20ppm of impurities in order to maintain a proper plasma. If the instrument is used every day for some hours then you may consider about using a Liquid Argon tank if your gas supplier can provide such a tank. Liquid Argon provides the best gas quality at all. The gas Volume of a 150Ltr liquid Argon tank
