资本市场的地缘政治学:希腊航运业的案例 This research proposal will discuss the geopolitics of capital markets seen from the perspective of shipping finance focusing on the case of the Greek shipping industry before and after the multifaceted economic crisis erupted in Greece in the wake of the global financial crisis of 2008. Shipping industry, gains a lot of attention as more than eighty percent of the worlds trade is conducted by water and the worlds waterways are and will remain the most efficient means for transporting goods. In fact, the transition from a world of isolated economies to a financially integrated and interdependent community took place through navigation. Susan Strange stresses the latters significance on the national level emphasizing on the spreading conviction that control over merchant ships in peace as well as in war is the determinant factor to maintain national security and serve the national interest. Greek shipping industry has a prominent position in global maritime transports. What is more it is one of the key pillars of the Greek economy as, along with tourism, they constitute the countrys two comparative advantages. The Greek-controlled fleet (vessels whose owners are Greek citizens, regardless of the flag of vessel) is ranked first globally regarding international merchant fleet capacities, accounting for 16.6% of the worlds total transport capacity. In 2013, Greeks maintained 3,669 vessels which correspond to a total capacity of 261.63 million deadweight (dwt). The Greekcontrolled fleet having remained in the second ranking globally since 2008, now precedes Japan. Dry bulk vessels and crude oil tankers aggregate to more than 80% of the total capacity of the Greek owned fleet. As far as the Greek flag fleet is concerned (i.e. ships over 1000 gross tonnage registered in the Greek national registry) in 2013 accounted for 802 vessels, ranking seventh internationally and second in the European Union.
