9) The Satire Lead: Sometimes even satire can be used in a newspaper lead. Example: If love is a many-splendored(美好的,奇妙的) thing, Zsa Zsa Gobor’s life must be like living in a rainbow. Miss Gobor married her sixth husband yesterday. 10) Main Fact Lead: This kind of lead attaches great importance to the main fact in the story. Example: The European Community last night recognized the independence of Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia, ending the Baltic States’ 51 years of diplomatic isolation under Soviet rule. Baltic States 波罗的海诸国(常指拉脱维亚、立陶宛和爱沙尼亚,有时亦包括波兰和芬兰) 11) Anecdotal Lead: In this lead the reporter tells a story or an anecdote about the person or thing in the news story to attract the readers ’interest. Example: At 14, Kent Corad figured he would be ready for the Senate in 1986 or 1988. 24 years later, Corad laughs at the memory. At 38, about to become North Dakota’s new Senator, he says “I guess I was a serious kid.” 12) Combined lead: In this lead more than one important facts are reported in the lead. This lead is often used in reporting more important or more complicated events. “when”,” as”, “amid”,” following” or “in the wake of ” etc are often used to combine two or more events in one complex sentence. Example: Riot police were involved in further clashes with a crowd of about 300 early today as “bread riots” in Ely district of Cardiff broke out again for the third night running.
