Introduction 1.1 the concept of new Austrian law The new Austrian Tunneling Method (New Austrian Tunneling Method NATM) was first proposed by Austria tunnel Engineer Rat Bbu Heavey. It is to control the blasting (smooth blasting and presplitting blasting etc.) for excavation method; shotcrete and bolt as the main means of support, through the deformation monitoring of surrounding rock control, a tunnel construction method of dynamic correction of design parameters and construction methods change, its core content is to give full play to the self bearing capacity of surrounding rock.
