The method, which would potentially meet the need of energy storage (ES) in Chinese new energy power generation, was discussed. Firstly, the economic benefit of ES was analyzed, followed by the current state of Chinese electricity market. Secondly, the cost of ES options was estimated. Finally, a optimized model was proposed to analyze the development of ES in China. Based on the results of the model, three strategies are proposed for ES industry: 1) to encourage power generation companies to provide full solutions of ES system; 2) to use generators integrated with ES, [1] distributed generation and micro grid to lower the cost of electricity system; 3) to commercialize the ancillary services of electricity.
