Cell invasion and metastasis are important lethal factors of it, which can be caused by matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) dissolving the extracellular matrix. MMPs are zinc- dependent proteolytic enzymes and widely distributed in various tissues and organs. MMPs participate in the degradation and rebuilding of extracellular matrix, regulating cell adhesion, playing an important role in the tumor invasion and metastasis. In this review, we put emphasis on the role of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in glioma invasion and the mechanism.
