Definition of a Chinese idiom:  A multi-charactered expression which has a relatively fixed structure and whose real meaning is transparent to the native Chinese speakers but can not be or is very hard to be derived from the literal meanings of and syntactic relations between its constituents. 2. Classification of Chinese idioms Besides vulgar expressions (粗俗语), Chinese idioms can be divided into four categories 1) Set phrase(成语): Mainly in four characters.
