Its efficiency has close relation with the learners? communicative competence. Nevertheless, in China, vocabulary learning is time-consuming and pretty boring. More and more English learners realized that although they may remember a great number of words and idioms, they cannot use them appropriately, which usually result in pragmatic failure in communication. With the development of English reform, teachers and learners have both turned their attention to the research of vocabulary instruction. Context was first proposed by the anthropologist Malinowski. This thesis tries to explore how to apply context theories to English vocabulary learning on the basis of former research theories. As the author sees it, the application of context theories to English vocabulary learning not only reflects the creativity of English learning but also embodies English learners? ability to apply context theories to learn English vocabulary.
