Unit 9 Shipment Introduction Shipment is one of the indispensable terms of a contract. In practice, shipment involves procedures such as: clearing the goods through the customs, booking shipping space or chartering a ship, completing shipping documents, and sending shipping advice. Terms of shipment include: time of shipment, port of shipment, port of destination, time of loading, shipping documents, etc. time of shipment refers to a period of time or a deadline for a consignment to be loaded on board a vessel. Transport Shipment involves transport which is an important part in international business. The points regarding transport are as follows: means of conveyance (运送方式)：by road or rail, by sea or air or combined transport (a road-sea-rail carriage) forms of carriage contracts are Consignment Note(托运单) or Airway Bill （航空提单或货运单）when goods are transported by road /rail or air; Transport ▲sea transport involves chartering a vessel (租船) or booking shipping space (订舱), thus contracts signed between the ship owner and the shipper may appear in the form of either a Charter Party （租船契约）or a Bill of Lading（提单） Attention On FOB,CFR or CIF basis, the time of shipm. for the seller is evidenced (依据)by the date of B/L; In case of an FOB contract, the buyer must make shipping arrangements, either charter or send a ship or book space on a liner. On either FOB, CFR or CIF basis, the seller must dispatch a shipping advice to the buyer after the shipment is made on board the ship.
