* Professions For Women MADE BY JONIOR,CLASS 2 NO.10,16,18,25,34,35 弗吉尼亚·伍尔夫 1882-1941, English novelist, critic and essayist Born and brought up in an upper-middle-class, socially active, literary family. Was educated at home, becoming a voracious reader of the books in her father’s extensive library. Experienced her first bout of mental illness after her mother’s death and suffered from bipolar disorder, mania-depression illness, for the rest of her life. -Works EARLY WORKS The Voyage Out, 1915 《出海》 Night and Day, 1919 《日夜》 LATER WORKS Jacob’ s Room, 1922 《雅各的房间》 Mrs. Dalloway, 1925 《黛洛维夫人》 To the Lighthouse, 1927 《到灯塔去》 Orlando, 1928 《奥尔兰多》 The Waves, 1931 《海浪》 The Years, 1937 《年月》 Between the Acts, 1941 《幕与幕之间》 COLLECTIONS OF ESSAYS, literary commentaries A Room of One’s Own , 1929 《一间自己的房间》 Moments of Being, 1941, 《存在的瞬间》 -THEMES As a novelist Woolfs primary concern was to represent the flow of ordinary experience. Her emphasis was not on plot or characterization but on a characters consciousness, thoughts and feelings, which she brilliantly illuminated by the stream of consciousness technique and interior monologue She wrote about the mind and inner self of her characters, and she tried above all to represent how time evolved in the mind. MOMENTS OF BEING(瞬间的存在) She thought that each individual reacts in a different way to the hundreds of sensations and impressions he or she receives every day: “ Life is a luminous halo(发光的光环)… surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end”. She, therefore, eliminated traditional plots and direct dialogues. External reality lost its traditional importance, except for the influence it had on inner life, the life of mind. She limited the action to one day (Mrs Dalloway), or to two different days (To the Lighthouse), or a few hours (Between the Acts). She recorded moments that she called “moments of being” which encapsulate(总结、概括) real life and the real self and are moments of intuition th
