Her emphasis was not on plot or characterization but on a characters consciousness, thoughts and feelings, which she brilliantly illuminated by the stream of consciousness technique and interior monologue She wrote about the mind and inner self of her characters, and she tried above all to represent how time evolved in the mind. MOMENTS OF BEING(瞬间的存在) She thought that each individual reacts in a different way to the hundreds of sensations and impressions he or she receives every day: “ Life is a luminous halo（发光的光环）… surrounding us from the beginning of consciousness to the end”. She, therefore, eliminated traditional plots and direct dialogues. External reality lost its traditional importance, except for the influence it had on inner life, the life of mind. She limited the action to one day (Mrs Dalloway), or to two different days (To the Lighthouse), or a few hours (Between the Acts).
