It was more than its signature twin towers: it was a complex of seven buildings on 16 acres. It was 1353 feet (412 meters) high, with 110 stories. It used to be the landmark of New York City. Osama bin Laden Al Qaeda Al Qaeda was founded in 1988 by Osama bin Laden to consolidate the international network he established during the Afghan war. Its goals were the advancement of Islamic revolutions throughout the Muslim world and repelling foreign intervention in the Middle East. Osama bin Laden was a Saudi Arabian multimillionaire suspected of planning terrorist attacks against the United States. In 1999, the FBI (Federal Bureau of Investigation) placed bin Laden on its Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list connected with the bombings of the US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania in 1998. Little was known about bin Laden’s personal life in the west. He was believed to be responsible for the 911 terrorist attack. On May 1, 2011, bin Laden was killed by US Navy SEAL (SEa + Air + Land) in the suburbs of Islamabad, Pakistan. The 9/11 Terrorist Attack Al Qaeda committed its most devastating attack on Sep. 11, 2001, when 19 Al Qaeda operatives hijacked 4 passenger planes and drove two into the twin towers of the World Trade Centre and one into the Pentagon; and a fourth plane crashed in rural Pennsylvania.
