D istin gu ish in g P rob lem s on C h in ese R oot an d A ffix of T w o-sy llab le W ord s A b stra ct:T his article focuses on the problem of m odern C hinese roots and affixes in units of tw o-sy llab le w ords.T h e thesis analyzes different op in ion s and perspectives on the problem of roots and affixes by review ing the research of predeeessors.O n the basis of previou s studies,w e continue the fiirther study of sum m arizing an d describ ing th e nature,th e source and th e scope of m odern C h inese affixes as w ell as classify ing them according to m ulti-stan dards an d prin cip les. T h e m eanings of m odern C h inese affixes are not com pletely ethereal as that of Indo-European language, on the contrary, m any so-called affixes generally have a certain degree of lex ical m eanings. Som e m eanings of A ffixes are concrete, and som e are vacuou s.From historical perspective, it is a gradual changing process for the m eanings of affix es w hich is from concrete to vacuou s. B aptized and w orn dow n by th e long h istorical river, O nly a few typical C h inese affixes has basically fritter aw ay the lex ical m ean ing itself,and can be seen as relatively pure affixes. In addition, there are m any atypical affixes in trodu ced from w est by m ean s of tran slation,w h ich hav e m ore v igorou s v itality .T h ey have great ab ilities to creat n ew w ords, an d h ave a high degree of generalization ; T he lexical m eanings of th ese affixes are less vacuou s than th ose of typ ical affixes,but their degree of vacu ity are qu ite different.T h erefore,th e situation becom es com paratively m ore com p lex, w h ich h as a great analytical value.
