Implementation of Low Sulfur Surcharges(LSF) th 19 December 2014 Dear valued customers, International MARPOL rules mandate a decrease of sulfur content in bunker fuel from 1,0% to 0,1% January 1st 2015, in order to reduce emission of sulfur oxides in coastal areas. This requires ocean carriers to switch to more refined but significantly more expensive marine gas oil (MGO). Due to this drastic cost increase, all shipping lines will implement a new ‘Low Sulfur Surcharge (LSF)’ applicable to all shipments crossing ‘Emission Control Areas (ECA). st The charge will be effective as of 1 January 2015 for cargo passing through the North European ECA (including Baltic Sea and most of the North Sea and the English Channel) and the North American ECA (including most of US and Canadian coasts), and identical in both directions, import and export. Therefore, JF Hillebrand will implement this LSF surcharge accordingly. Due to LSF varies for different ports and different trade lanes. We will update you in the quote case by case.
