From the discreet but beautifully designed street frontage to the exceptional attention to detail in the communal areas this place is a wonderful surprise. I traveled with friends over Easter 2010.We arrived by plane and the hotel provided a driver for the hour long trip from the airport - very impressive and comfortable after an early start in Beijing. On arrival we were offered delicious tea as we undertook a quick and efficient check-in. Although we arrived mid-morning our rooms were ready. My friends had a suite and I had a standard room and both were delightful. I found my room to be a perfect size; yes, it is small but it is stylish and well fitted out. The bathroom was very luxurious. There is so much to do in Pingyao there was little time to spend in the room anyway. The library/ bar is an ideal place to relax as are the courtyard areas. Each room has an artwork mural above th
