Restoration ecology represents an emerging synthesis of ecological theories and al- lows for the testing of ecological theories. This paper gives a definition of restoration ecology, introduces its contents and objec- . tives of research It summarizes the investigations on ecological restoration of aquatic e- cosystem and looks into the prospects for the developing trend of restoration ecology. Also it makes focal points to discuss the current situation and mainly affecting factors of the in- land waters in China.
