By m eans o f the com parison of the seism ic actions def ined in the current Chinese Code w ith those defined in the Genera l Rule for P erform ancebased Se ism ic Design of Buildings, and the A ISC Se ism ic P rovisions, it is proposed to classify the steel structura l system s in to four categories by the ir energyd issipat ing capacity, fo llowed by introducing an adjustm ent coefficient of structura l system, the va lue o f w hich is a lso suggested for each catego ry.
