俄亥俄州立大学中文旗舰工程中小学项目 K-12 Chinese Flagship Program at The Ohio State University October 6, 2008 Dear Chinese language teachers, Ohio has witnessed tremendous progress in K- 12 Chinese language programs over the last few years. Thanks to your hard work, thousands of students are learning Chinese across Ohio. In order to help you stay better connected and provide more support, the OSU K-12 Chinese Flagship Program has facilitated the establishment of the Ohio Association of Teachers of Chinese (OATC), which is associated with the Ohio Foreign Language Association (OFLA). In March of this year, we invited 13 teachers of Chinese to form a planning committee (Appendix A) to create OATC. Nanping Wang (Beavercreek High School) was recommended to serve as the chair of the committee, and Jeannine Subisak (Columbus Academy) as the secretary. At the recent OFLA conference on April 4, we organized an event to announce the beginning process of OATC, including reviewing the OATC bylaws (Appendix B). In early May, an letter was sent to teachers of Chinese to invite them to become OATC members and to nominate the first term of OATC officers. Only paid OATC members can nominate, be nominated, and have voting power. In June, four OATC officers were elected based on returned emails: Nanping Wang (Beavercreek High School) as President, Grace Paul (Solon High School) as Vice President, Jeannine Subisak (Columbus Academy) as Secretary, and Michael Kralovic (Gahanna-Lincoln High School) as Treasurer. With about 60 teachers of Chinese in K-12 schools across Ohio today, OATC expects to play the needed supporting role and a platform to share resources. The OSU K-12 Chinese Flagship Program will provide assistance to OATC, including web-based resources and support for organizational development. W
