AISCQC015 Mock-up Bridge Girder Instructions For applicants to the Major Bridge Category, AISC Certified Steel Fabricator Program In addition to the Checklist questions, the fabricator seeking Initial Certification for Major Steel Bridges, with or without Fracture Critical Endorsement, may be required to complete a mock–up bridge girder as prescribed below. Regardless of past experience, the mock–up bridge girder is required when the fabricator does not have appropriate work in house at the time of the audit to demonstrate all of the knowledge and skills addressed by this instruction. Applicants that do have work in house at the time of the audit may still not be able to demonstrate all of the knowledge and skills addressed by this instruction. Quality Management Company (QMC) may call for appropriate substitute exercises to provide a means for demonstration of these knowledge and skills depending on what project types are available at the auditee’s facility. When a Fracture Critical Endorsement is included in the application, all aspects of the mock–up bridge girder shall be in compliance with the fabricator’s fracture control plan. The fabricator’s fracture control plan will be considered a Documented Procedure and will outline responsibilities and methods employed in the auditee’s facility to meet the requirements of: Checklist questions; AASHTO/AWS D1.5, Section 12 “Fracture Critical Plan (FCP) for Nonredundant Members;” and AISC Audit Policies as they apply. Representative Mill Test Reports, Certificates of Compliance, and other Fracture Critical applicable documentation specific to the mock–up bridge girder will be required at the time of the on-site audit.
