China Abstract Objective T o e plore the relation of e pression of ezrin, a membrane cytoskeleton crosslinker protein, t o hepatocellular carcinoma ( H CC) invasion and portal vein tumor thrombosis. Methods T he specimens from 41 cases of HCC and 9 of benign liver diseases w ere employ ed for this study. The specimens from 41 cases of H CC w ere divided into 2 groups according to tumor size, daughter nodule, distant metast asis, envelope and portal vein tumor thrombosis. One w as the high in- vasive ability group and t he other was low invasive ability group. Ezrin was detected by RT- PCR, Western blot and immunohist ochemist ry in these resected specimens and 3 H CC cell lines of MH- CC97L, MH CC97H and LM3. Results The H CC with high invasive ability show ed higher levels of Ezrin mRNA and protein than that w ith low invasive ability ( P 01 05) and the portal vein tumor thrombosis e pressed even higher Ezrin mRNA and protein levels ( P 01 05) . All the 3 H CC cell lines e pressed Ezrin and the e pression level rose along w ith increase in the invasive ability .
