The Netherlands is currently one of the world capitals of great modern design. Here are four Dutch Power-houses. Let’s share their design philosophies, as well as a peek into the inspiration behind one of their signature designs. 1.Wieki Somers Stories play a big role in her design, although they never overrule. She wanted to design something that is beautiful, fragile and tells a story; to evoke emotions from the user. The inspiration of the High Tea Pot was from images of a fox hunt. The fur collar keeps the tea warm, so a nobleman can drink his tea out of the skull kept hot for a long time. When the fur collar is removed, the naked skull appears—made of semi-transparent bone china—snow-white porcelain that contains some bone. The tea is visible through the thin china cast 2. Maarten Baptist He likes to design products for the public—everyday objects that are simple, user-friendly and affordable. His aim is to blend shape construction and material into a visual perfect unity, resulting in products that exude a obvious quality. The Open Air Cutlery has a classic shape, but because it is hollow, it becomes quite contemporary. The void makes the cutlery very light and thus very easy to handle. 3. Joost Wever He is fascinated with structures, mechanisms and mo
