I Never Saw a Moor By Emily Dickinson Biography Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10, 1830 – May 15, 1886) was an American poet. Born in Amherst Massachusetts, to a successful family with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive life. After she studied at the Amherst Academy for seven years in her youth, she spent a short time at Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before returning to her familys house in Amherst. Thought of as an eccentric by the locals, she became known for her penchant for white clothing and her reluctance to greet guests or, later in life, even leave her room. Most of her friendships were therefore carried out by correspondence. I Never Saw a Moor I never saw a Moor-- I never saw the Sea-- Yet know I how the Heather looks And what a Billow be. I never spoke with God Nor visited in Heaven-- Yet certain am I of the spot As if the Checks were given. This poem covers areas that people may not see, but take for granted; it is an argument for faith.? One does not have to see a river to know that it exists or to enjoy it.? This poem could also be describing things that Dickinson studied or read about in the Bible.? In educating oneself, a person can travel across the world in his or her imagination.? This idea can easily be transferred to nature and a person’s feelings and reactions when he or she sees a beautiful sight.? In brief, Dickinson’s nature poems “delight with sharp, precise observations, but they are infused with mingled ecstasy and pain” 我从未看过荒原(网络) 我从未看过荒原-- 我从未看过海洋-- 可我知道石楠的容貌 和狂涛巨浪。
