Th e exp er iment al method s inclu ded actu al EDS exposure tests and analyses of corrosion products by XRD and SEM/ EDS. Result s revealed that after a long-term exp osure, the extent of corrosion on the lower surface of steel was larger Ct than that on the upp er sur face. The aver age weight loss (C) C=AtB A B ver su s exposure time (t) can be correlated by the law C = AtB A where A and B are con stant s. The weathering steel has lower B A and B values than that of the carbon steel, indicating having better corrosion resistance. An increase in the amount of Cr, Si, Cr Si P or P in the weathering steel improved the corrosion resistance, Mn while an increase in the amount of Mn lowered the corrosion resistance. The difference in weight loss between blasted steel and polished steel after long-term exposure is insignificant . The corrosion of the steels tested in Sun Yat-Sen Univer sity was more severe than that in China Steel Corporation , indicating th at ch lor ide in the atmospher e played an imp or t ant role in
