Collagen can be derived from several sources, including porcine, bovine, or marine, like fish scale. With a lower risk and specific demand, a membrane-like scaffold, Biocornea, is made of tilapia fish scale collagen with layered structure, which is similar to human cornea. It also shows high biocompatibility and transparency to be applied in anterior lamellar keratoplasty (ALK), Descemets stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK) and adequate mechanical strength for sealing emergent corneal perforation. Based the characteristic of fish scale collagen, biocornea is widely studied and developed for kinds of clinical purposes. Additionally, after cornea transplantation, accompanied glaucoma would be a possible complication and to manage the intraocular pressure (IOP) will be needed. As used in the gold standard, trabeculectomy, a porous ologenTM collagen matrix of porcine collagen plays an important role to prevent scar formation through randomizing the fibroblast growth. This dynamic IOP adjustment of the aqueous humor through trabecular meshwork is suggested to manage glaucoma and to follow other ophthalmological surgery, like keratoplasty.
