College of Chemist ry , Jilin U niversity , Changchun , ) 130023 Strontium in drainage sediments was determined by atomic absorption spectrometry using air - acetylene flame. The effects of coexisting ions ( Al3 + , Ca2 + , Fe2 + , K+ , ClO - ) were investigated. The addition of 4 2000 g/ mL lanthanum solution as matrix modifier eliminated the interferences of these ions. The experimental results were in good agreement with certified value. The method is sensitive ,accurate and reliable. It provides a simple method for the determination of strontium in environmental samples. X
