If you want to use a shared folder, you must install the same vm- tools as the VMworkstation version in the client and specify the shared directory in your virtual machine settings. VMware Workstation 5 contains the enhanced shared folder functionality. You can use the shared folder functionality in the following client operating systems: Windows Server 2003 Windows XP Windows 2000 Windows NT 4 Linux with core version 2.4 or higher 98 clients are not supported Set one or more shared folders for a virtual machine. Make sure that the virtual machine and Workstation are disconnected. Click on its tab to activate the virtual machine (in your favorites). Select the options for the virtual machine settings and click the shared folder option. You can add one or more directories to the list. Those directories can be on the host or on the network that the host can access. Adding shared folders to the Windows host 1. select the virtual machine 2. select options Select shared folders at 3. 4. click the Add button to open the shared folder wizard and click Next 5. enter the name and location of the shared folder and click the next step Name - this name will appear in the virtual machine Host folder - the folder path you want to share in the host. Enable this share - select this option to enable shared folder functionality. Choosing this option does not disable this shared folder, but does not remove it from the virtual machine configuration. You can add a shared folder to the list, but you dont start it right away.
