Many students say to me that they have many obstacles in communicating with foreigners and want to improve their spoken English, but do not know how to do it. According to my personal foreign language learning and teaching experience, the main obstacles to the formation of oral communication are:
1. Lack of vocabulary and grammar, not to say what I want to say
With the lack of vocabulary, we have a lot to say. Sometimes, we finally think of the words we want to say, but limited to the lack of grammatical knowledge and how to use the word, the result is confusing and even misleading,
2. Do not pay attention to the imitation pronunciation, lack of correct pronunciation guidance
Our words and grammar are not enough to communicate. Pronunciation is also important. Poor pronunciation or lack of standards can also lead to communication barriers. The standard sound is A, if you read B. I think very few people will understand. Some have strong accents, and speak mandarin and English with a strong hometown accent. In the north, there is a flat tongue and tongue, and there are people who read the ship as sip, and the south has n and l, and the anterior nasal and posterior nasal sounds are not equal. Some people read night as light. This creates a lot of communication barriers.
English is a foreign language, and we Chinese speak foreign languages with different accents. In fact, every foreigners accent is different, just as we are all Chinese, but everyone speaks mandarin with their own accent. Although we and foreigners have accents, if our pronunciation is very close to the standard sounds, the barriers to communication will be greatly reduced.
