Inventory Count LightspeedNXT How to Take a Physical Inventory This is an overview of the recommended procedures for a physical inventory count. Lightspeed recommends at least one yearly count of the entire parts inventory. In addition to the yearly count, we recommend that you maintain a rolling inventory count. A rolling inventory count is an ongoing inventory count done throughout the year. Parts are grouped into counting sections by supplier, part number, and/ or bin locations. Each group is frequently counted throughout the year to maintain a more accurate parts inventory. The goal with a rolling inventory count is to slowly rotating through the entire inventory before completing the annual parts inventory count. Step 1 – Preparing for a Physical Inventory Count The first step in preparing for a physical inventory count is to organize your parts inventory. We suggest that you organize parts inventory into sections such as bin locations and/or by supplier and part number. Physical inventory counts are more accurate and less complex when completed in organized sections. After organizing the physical inventory, update the inventory record with the corresponding bin locations. Bin locations can be updated using the variable update function under Parts – Inventory Update Functions – Variable Parts Updating. Step 2 – Determine the Current Parts Inventory Values When doing a parts inventory count you will want to know how much the value changed from your current figures to the value after the updated count. Printing an inventory valuation before and after the count allows you to check the difference. Before changing or updating the inventory count, print (or save) reports with the current inventory values.
