Dept. of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University, Beijing 10008 , China) ABSTRACT: An efficient formula is derived from Maxwell equa , tions for calculating the transient magnetic field inside the high , buildings struck by lightning. The formula can reflect the influence , , of the wavefront steepness of lightning current on the transient magnetic field. Based on the formula, a numerical algorithm is pro posed, in which a discretization procedure is made in time and space , to the field calculation. From the algorithm, the magnetic flux den , sity can be given at each space point and the field distribution can be , further obtained for an arbitrarily assigned zone inside the high buildings.
