Background Information  AIDS: Acquired immune deficiency syndrome or acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) is a disease of the human immune system caused by HIV (the human immunodeficiency virus人体免疫缺陷病毒). This condition progressively reduces the effectiveness of the immune system and leaves individuals subjected to opportunistic infections(机会性感染) and tumors. HIV is transmitted through direct contact of a mucous membrane(黏膜) or the bloodstream with a bodily fluid(体液) containing HIV, such as blood, vaginal fluid(阴道液), seminal fluid(精液), and breast milk(母乳).
