Department. of. LeShan. Teachers College Leshan 614004, China) Abstract Tapered optical fibers are fabricated by means of melting and pulling the end of optical fiber. A design scheme for an optical fiber connecting and splitting system is proposed based on the analysis of the transmission and coupling properties of tapered optical-fiber and related experiments. Main factors such as the angle of fiber, the crossing angle between two fibers and the overlapped length of two fibers that will affect the coupling property of the fiber connection and fiber beam splitting are considered during design. For optical-fiber connection and fiber beam splitting, an idea with one or several tapered fibers in the tapered area (the lighting area) of the transmitting fiber will couple each other, and the light signal will be coupled into other optical fibers from the transmitting fiber, so that fiber connection and fiber beam splitting coming true is put forward.
