In late twentieth Century 5O, American behavioral scientist Frederic ? Herzberg (Fredrick Herzberg) and his aides in the Pittsburgh region of the United States of two hundred engineers, accountants of the survey, according to the survey results, put forward the famous double factor theory. Herzberg is a psychologist. He uses medical terminology to classify the factors that influence employee behavior and work attitude into 2 categories: health factor and motivation factor.
Health factor refers to factors similar to the effect of health care on physical health. It is not therapeutic, but preventive. Health care factors include company policy, management measures, supervision, interpersonal relations, material working conditions, wages and benefits, etc.. When these factors deteriorate to below acceptable levels, job dissatisfaction arises. However, when people think these factors are good, it merely removes the dissatisfaction and does not lead to a positive attitude, which creates a neutral state that is neither satisfactory nor unsatisfactory. Those who can bring positive attitude, satisfaction and incentive effect, meet the individual self realization factor is called incentives, including: achievement, appreciation, challenging work, increase work responsibilities, and the opportunity of growth and development. If these factors are in place, there will be greater incentives for people. According to Herzberg, the administration should recognize that health care factors are necessary, but that once it is not satisfied, it will not produce more positive results. Only motivators can make people better at work.
Based on the dual factor theory, managers can reach the following conclusions:
