Since most children spend the majority of their time with a parent, it’s important that parents become active participants in their child’s language development. Two easy ways for parents to become involved are through children’s literature and play. Children’s literature: Sharing books with young children creates a love for books at an early age. Reading together allows a child exposure to new vocabulary, sentence structure, and phonemic awareness. Books allow children an opportunity to learn language with the support of visuals. Finally, books provide repetition which is fundamental in language development. Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.
