Vocabulary Teaching:Individual Approach vs.Interactive Approach Abstract:This paper attempts to evalute two approaches to vocabulary teaching to ESL students:individual approach and interactive approach. The individual approach guides students’ vocabulary learning thorough homework assignment, while the interactive approach leads Vocabulary Teaching:Individual Approach vs.Interactive Approach Through classroom activities. The criteria for evaluting the effectiveness of the two approaches are based on the students’ ability to recognize the parts of speech of words, to identify the meaning of words from contexts, to indicate Vocabulary Teaching:Individual Approach vs.Interactive Approach the relationship between words in the sentence, and to use words correctly in their writing. The results of this study show that both of the two approaches can help ESL students learn vocabulary in one way or another, Vocabulary Teaching:Individual Approach vs.Interactive Approach But the interactive approach appears to be more effetive with word retention.
