Abstract : H ig h-entro py alloys w ere new ly developed allo ys t hat w ere com po sed, by def init ion, of at
least f ive principal elements w it h co ncentratio n in the rang e of 5%- 35% ( m olar fraction) . T her ef ore,
t he alloying behavior of any given principal element w as sig nif icantly aff ect ed by all the ot her principal
element s present ed. T he definit ion, dist inguished str ucture and perf orm ance charact erist ics, as w ell as
t he po tential applicat ions of high-entropy alloys w ere introduced. n addit ion, t he hist orical develop-
ment and t he latest resear ch prog ress in t his f ield are also sum marized.
