Unit 4 Quotations, Offers and Counter-offers 报盘与还盘 Objectives Upon completion of this chapter, the students should: understand the differences between firm offer and non-firm offer and grasp their relative expressions. be familiar with the terms conditions involved in an offer and be able to write them independently. Counter-offers Useful words and expressions 严格讲quote/quotation 与 offer不同,quote/quotation是报价,指某一商品的单价,offer是报盘,除单价外,还包括数量,交货期,付款方式等等。 另外,offer比较固定,卖方价格报出后,一般不能轻易变动,而quote/quotation则不同,卖方报价后,不受约束,可以根据情况略加调整。尽管有区别,但各国商人则往往把这两个词混用。这一点要特别注意。 Useful expressions in a non-firm offer 1. subject to our final confirmation 以我方最后确认为准 We are now making you an offer subject to our final confirmation. Useful expressions in a non-firm offer 2. without engagement 此报盘无约束力 We are now making you the following offer without engagement. 3. subject to the goods being unsold 以货物未被售出为准 We are now making you a special offer subject to the goods being unsold. 1. We are now making you a firm offer for 10 metric tons of rice. 2. We are now offering you firm as follows, 3.We make you the following offer subject to your reply within 10 days. 4. We make you an offer, subject to your reply reaching us not later than noon time October 21 Beijing time. 5. The offer is valid for 3 days. 6. The offer is valid till March 15. II. Counter-offer Responses to an offer (2) Conditional acceptance or counter offer An offeree may think that the offer is mostly acceptable, if certain terms or conditions are amended or changed according to his proposal. For example, he may find the price offered is higher than expected, and he may also think that terms like the shipment, payment and packing should be changed. In this case, the counter-offer occurs.
