Study on in situ Reductive Desulfurization of Thiophene-Type Compounds over
Metal Boride

Abstract: A new approach of mild and deep in situ reductive desulfurization at ambient temperature and
pressure without using external H2 gas was developed. The desulfurization over different metal borides and the
choices of suitable nickel salt precursor and amount of reducing reagent were conducted. The results show that
the nickel boride generated from NiCl ·6H O reacting with boron-based reducing reagent have higher

desulfurization performance for the thiophene-type compounds, and using them with 0.64 g reducing reagent,
the desulfurization efficiency can reach over 99%. According to the analysis of the results of GC-MS, IR, XRD
and XPS, the mechanism of desulfurization of thiophene-type compounds over nickel borides was discussed. It
