Abstract :Accomplice withdrawal is a special defence in English criminal law which could free an accessory from com-
plicity liability． The constituent elements for an effective withdraw are as follows :the accessory must abandon before the
substantive crime is committed by the perpetrator ;and there must be a change of mind on the part of the accessory ;une-
quivocal notice must be given to the perpetrator ;there exists the act of withdrawal． An effective withdrawal must counter-
mand or revoke the effect of what has been done by the accessory before his withdrawal． In this paper ，the authors fully
study the system of withdrawal in complicity in English criminal theory ，could supply a new sight and path for the develop-
ment and improvement of the complicity liability in Chinese criminal law．
