The object of this overview is the fluctuation characteristic of the photovoltaic power generation and fluctuation smoothing technology. Firstly fluctuation smoothing technologies of PV power generation systems are classified and reviewed, then the various smoothing technologies is comprehensively evaluated based on the advantage, disadvantage and maturity, and finally several promising and cost-effective technologies are highlighted through the analysis of the development process of PV smoothing technologies. These results have certain significance for guiding the fluctuation smoothing technologies to apply to photovoltaic power generation systems.
