There are m any factors tha t affect the h ang ing w all/ footw all effect, how ever, in the near-fault zone, the facto r re la-t ed to the source m echan ism is the m ost mi po rtant one, espec ia lly the fault dip ang le. In this artic le, the authors m ake u se of the 2D fin ite elem ent m ethod to smi ulate the near-fault ground m o tion, then qu antitatively investigate the influ ence o f the fau lt-dip on the hang ing w a ll/ footw a ll e ffect. T he result show s th at for both the buried strike- slip faults and d ip- slip faults, as the fault dip increases from 0bto 90b, the hang ing w all/ footw a ll effect mi m ed ia tely gets obv ious first and then obscure g radua lly.
