Dinosaurs appeared on the earth about 200million years ago and dominated both land and sea for almost 100 million years. It is not certain why the dinosaurs became extinct. What is your idea of dinosaurs extinction? Possible reasons: Task 2: Individual work in class. 1. Read the passage on page 30 of the textbook and find out about scientists theories about the extinction of the dinosaurs. 2. Read the passage carefully and decide whether the statements are True of False. 1) Most animals have died out during the long history of the earth. ( ) 2) Dinosaurs are the most famous of the animals that have disappeared. ( ) 3) There used to be many different kinds of dinosaurs in the world. ( ) 4) A rare species of bird-like dinosaur could both run and climb trees, ( ) 5) Now people know the reason why dinosaurs suddenly disappeared. ( ) Task 3: Group work in class. 1. Listen to the tape and underline the difficulties you have. 2. Discuss your difficulties with your group members. Task 4: Individual work in class. Look at the listening practice on page 30 of the textbook. 1. Predict in groups how the dodo might have become extinct. 2. Listening. Finish Ex3 and 4 on page 30. 3. It is a pity that in the story nobody helped the dodo. In groups discuss if you were there, what would you do to help save the dodo. Homework: 1. Read the reference book (Using Language) 2. Finish
